Instructor Workshops
Training and assessment to teach people how to sea kayak as an ACA Certified Instructor. The certification is recognized around the world. Aimed at outdoor professionals such as guides, retail staff and club members.
Click here to read about the process to become an ACA Instructor. Note that attending the Instructor Development Workshop (IDW) is a prerequisite for attending the Instructor Certification Exam (ICE).
Covers teaching methodology, learning styles, group management, skill modeling, skill progression, instructor judgement, risk management, ACA paperwork and more.
Trip Leader Workshops
Training and assessment to guide groups sea kayaking as an ACA Trip Leader. Aimed at outdoor professionals such as guides, retail staff, club members and those who lead others on the water.
Training workshops prepare the participant to lead others on the water safely as well as for the Assessment workshop. Attending the training is a prerequiste for the Assessment.
Covers group management, skills including boat handling and rescues, navigation, weather, waves, judgement, risk management, and more.
SKILL LEVEL ASSESSMENTS
Training and assessment of personal paddling skills. Useful for building personal foundation of skills and knowledge. Can be used as a prerequisite for Instructor and Trip Leader workshops. Aimed at all paddlers from recreational paddlers to outdoor professionals.
Covers different levels of personal skills including paddle strokes, rescues and towing, as well as topics such as navigation, weather, waves, hypo/hyperthermia.
